My Dad

  My Dad

A choice activity today for school is to make a blog post about your dad or caregiver. I am doing one about my dad. I have to write about the things that make him special, things I love about him, etc.

My dad. I love my dad because he is a super cool guy, he works really hard every day to support the family and help us. My dad and I like some of the same things like cars, 4WD, mud, building things, rottweilers, need for speed, play fighting, listening to rock music, and spending time together. My sisters and I like to annoy him by calling him old man Jenkins, and Rodina Dwang. We like to go to the Waimakariri river to go 4WD and sometimes he gives me a driving lesson.

Hitting The Target - Rewritten

 Hitting The Target - Rewritten

For writing in term 2 we started to look at our story telling story which is hitting the target. After we looked at the story we had to write it again in our own way, but we had to keep the main points of the story.

There was a young man named Felix. He wanted to be the best archer in his country. Felix wanted to be the best so all he did was practice and practice until he hit a bullseye.

One day after he won a competition a short man came up to Felix and started conversation. "You're good but, I know someone better," the short man spoke. "Impossible," Felix replied. "Well, follow me and I shall show you to him." Felix followed the young man. They arrived at a barn. "Follow me."

As they walked Felix looked around. On one side of the barn there were about a hundred archery targets red circles within blue circles. Every target had an arrow stuck perfectly in the center of the bullseye.

The unknown man came out to say hello "Hello, my name is Jeffery," the man spoke. "Hi, I'm Felix," Felix replied. "How do you do it?" Felix asked. "Do what?" Jeffery asked. "How do you get your arrow in the exact center of the bullseye?" "Well," Jeffery started "you do things your way and I do things my way. You see first I shoot the arrow, then I paint the target around".

Felix looked at him with a confused look. "So your cheating." "Yes, yes I am," Jeffery confessed. "Well that's not very fair," Felix spoke. "Like I said, you do things your way and I do things my way," Jeffery walked away before Felix could reply. He was left there confused and disappointed.

 Problem Solving - Math

For the past couple of weeks in math I have been making a DLO (Digital Learning Object) like a google slide, canva, powtoon, etc about different ways to solve a maths problem. I got given five different strategies to solve a problem and then I had to one every slide. On that slide I had to explain how to use that strategy to solve your problem. I came up with my own questions like everyone else did. My whole math class had to do this.

In Another Life

Kia Ora, over this past week for Writing we made a fictional story to make our reader feel emotion. Our Learning Intention this week wast to deepen our understanding of descriptive language by creating feelings for our reader, such as empathy. We also looked into the effects of short sentences. Our story is based on the movie Marley and Me. We worked in buddy's to write this story. My buddy is Luna. Here is a link to her blog. Luna's Blog. What do you think about our story? What do you think  we could add to it?

My heart breaks as I walk into the cold room. I see him on the table. I bend over to give him his favorite toy. I felt my knees get weak, as I saw him lying there, nearly lifeless. I can't help but burst into tears. I hear Marley crying and it breaks my heart even more. I feel colorless. I get on my knees to pray that he will live to see another day. I start to have flashbacks to the first time we played fetch. I remember that he never gave me back the bone, and ran as fast as his little legs could go, so that I could never catch him. I wish I could protect him from his fate. I feel so helpless. The nurse comes in with a needle, I want to take it from her hands, so I could have more time with my great dog. I told him that I loved him, one last time, as the nurse injected him with the end of his life. ¨I love you Marley, we will meet again in another life¨

Writing - Skydiving

Writing - Skydiving

Today in writing we had to write a story about how we (writing class) thought skydiving would be. But with our writing we couldn't use the words skydiving or skydive so that made it a lot harder. This story was a lot of fun to write. It was also hard because I have never been skydiving before.

Walking closer to the edge of the plane I start to get nervous. I jump out of the plane and all I can hear are my screams. At first I was so scared but I'm actually having a lot of fun. The feeling was like when I bounce really high on the trampoline. As I was getting closer to the ground I had to pull the leaver to get my parachute out. When I reach the ground I get unattached from the guy holding onto me. Running over to my friends I tell them how much fun it was. This was definitely an activity I would do again. I am really proud of myself for over coming my fear of heights.

The information we had to collect was the defenders, challengers and how many times each country won. We had to add up all of our information on a google sheet, table, etc. I chose to put my information onto a google sheet. After adding up all of my information I put all of it into a pie chart. Here is my work.

Link to my google sheet with the information on it. Click Here.

Manu Characterisation

 Manu Characterisation

For our writing/storytelling we have listened to a book called 'The Way Finder' its about a boy and his tribe having to leave there island because they had no food or water. So they sailed along the sea to find a new island. But in the middle of the story there is a massive storm and Manu's brother (the way finder) gets hit with a paddle and dies. Then Manu becomes the new way finder and has to look for a new island. For our characterisation we had to list down 12 things that we think Manu would look like and we passed our book to someone else and they would draw him. I passed my book to my friend Tiare and she drew Manu from all 12 things I described about him. These are things I said I thought Manu would look like. Dark tan skin, freckles, short, big eyes, small ears, bushy eyebrows, short beard, big smile, skinny, brown hair, blue eyes, and mid - length hair. Here is her drawing. Have you ever heard of the book 'The Way Finder'?
